Olive plant health

Prevention, monitoring of pests and diseases, and good field practice.

Prevention starts with the plant

The most critical plant-health decision is made before planting: certified, inspected planting material with a plant passport and clear varietal identity. One infected plant carries the problem into the whole new grove.

Monitoring in the field

  • Olive fly: monitoring traps, with treatments based on catches and fruit stage.
  • Peacock spot: favoured by humidity and dense canopies — open up by pruning and protect early.
  • Verticillium wilt: soil-borne; avoid previous solanaceous crops, ensure drainage, avoid root injury.
  • Olive knot: enters through wounds — prune in dry weather and disinfect tools.
  • In-row weeds: they compete with young plants for water and nitrogen.

Any plant protection treatment must follow the uses approved in your country and be agreed with an agronomist.
